While most people will fall in love with Michael Collins (he's a smart, sexy, save-the-day kind of guy with the 'damaged bad boy' thing going on that is irresistible in a beach-read like this), I just have to put a word in for his side-kick, Kermit Guillardo. Kermit is a Vietnam Vet who is just so crazy, that you begin to think that he's an actual person - who could make this kind of stuff up? From his bad breath beach-bum self in the opening scene, to trying to be Michael's legal assistant in New York City, Kermit is a loyal, funny, far out character, just waiting to be played by Morgan Freeman. (Matt Damon as Collins, of course.) The big city law factory is eerily accurate, and the surprise ending will thrill every disheartened lawyer who wishes she had the courage to do the same as Michael Collins. Grab a margarita, and enjoy!
This book had me from the initial summary; we all want to burn our ties! But of course life is never that easy, and Collins (reluctant superlawyer) heads back to the action. If you're reading reviews on this, you probably enjoy legal thrillers quite a bit. Go download the book already.
If you are new to the genre, No Time To Run is a great place to start. Fun, well-paced, and with the feel of a style that might include future books at some point, this is a great one to own. Also, digital publishing is doing some really cool things allowing authors to make their work available for only 99 cents(!). I am pretty new to the digital book scene, and if you are too, it's important to know that Amazon does not limit Kindle books to the Kindle. You can read them on your computer, too, once you download the free Kindle for PC/Mac, including highlighting, bookmarks, syncing and so forth.
